Energizing audiences with the most exciting Americana/Cajun/Zydeco act on tour today!

When Lisa Haley’s soaring, compelling “cornbread” voice holds court in the "One World Swamp", worlds collide!

Lisa's distinctive sound embraces the multi-faceted genres of Louisiana music, including its French, Irish Celtic, Blues and Jazz genres, in which she is well-versed. Her music celebrates the power of family songs and stories to convey our shared human emotion, and her perspective over time of the cultural journey transforming Cajun/Zydeco into its modern forms.

A fourth-generation fiddler and descendant of immigrants who arrived in Roddy Bayou, Louisiana in 1718, Lisa was born to a family originally from Louisiana, Arkansas, Georgia and Virginia. A descendant of Francis Scott Key and F. Scott Fitzgerald, kin to the LeBoeuf, Broussard, Lambert and Thibodaux families, young Lisa grew up in California under mentorship of several Louisiana-born icons:
• GRAMMY winner Queen Ida (grew up in Daly City, CA,)
• Danny Poulard (40 year resident of San Francisco, CA.) and
• Protégé of Cajun accordion legend Joe Simien (50 year resident of South Los Angeles, CA,) performing in Joe’s band for 15 years.

Bringing progressive Louisiana music to a worldwide audience reaches far beyond a career playing solely traditional genre. Lisa has worked with Beatles producer Sir George Martin, multi-Grammy winner/producer Keb’Mo', Grammy-winning artists Queen Ida, Al Rapone, Rockin' Sydney ("Don't Mess with My Toot-toot",) Randy Newman, Lyle Lovett, Taj Mahal, John Hiatt, Brian Setzer, and a host of others.

She has been music director for Emmy-winning "Late Mr. Pete Show," with roles in "The Beverly Hillbillies Movie" (Jim Varney); "Man in the Moon" (Jim Carey); "Red Dragon" (Sir Anthony Hopkins); “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”; and on NBC-TV show "Las Vegas" performing her Zydeco and playing with the legendary Little Richard. She recently appeared in Hollywood Bowl Summersounds, presented by the L.A. Philharmonic Assn, a theatrical production based on 10 of Lisa’s songs.

Lisa performs a world-class show of traditional and contemporary Americana/Cajun/Zydeco music from the Bayous and Swamps. She tours in more than 20 countries and the US, performing up to 150 days a year to millions of fans in concerts and festivals, films, TV, commercials radio and educational shows worldwide and spreading her infectious "Zydecosis" to all ages in the “One World Swamp.”

Lisa's band, the Zydekats includes:
• Skip Edwards, keyboard/accordionist for Dwight Yoakam/Johnny Rivers;
• Chuck Alvarez, guitarist for Tim Weisberg/The Emotions;
• Andy Anders, bassist for Louisiana music legend Joe Simien; and
• Maria Martinez, drummer for Rita Cooledge/Barry White/Johnny Paycheck

LAURIE MORVAN BAND

LAURIE MORVAN BAND
Laurie Morvan’s inspired guitar playing has earned her feature articles in Guitar Player, Vintage Guitar and Modern Guitars magazines.  “Stunning California axe slinger...exhilarating electric blues guitar style...” (Modern Guitars).  “Morvan singes the strings” (Guitar Player).  “Fearless and fresh...Morvan plays with plenty of imagination” (Vintage Guitar).

The Laurie Morvan Band was a Top 10 FINALIST at the 2008 International Blues Challenge.  Clearly an audience favorite, Laurie and the band performed in the finals of the annual event, dubbed the “biggest event in blues”, held at the historic Orpheum Theater in Memphis, TN.
Additionally, "Cures What Ails Ya", the Laurie Morvan Band’s third CD, was named a Top 5 FINALIST in the 2008 Blues Foundation worldwide competition for Best Self-Produced CD.

"Cures What Ails Ya" was selected as a House of Blues Radio Hour Blues Breaker.  “It’s slammin’!” exclaimed Elwood Blues (Dan Aykroyd).  The CD has also benefitted from incredibly positive reviews in both national and regional press.  “Superior pop-blues” (Downbeat).  “It’s about time the labels took notice of this blazing singing/songwriting guitarist" (Elmore).
Laurie Morvan Band concerts deliver a one-two punch of outstanding musicianship and high energy fun.  Laurie is an engaging performer and compelling songwriter, leading her remarkably tight band with fearless, spontaneous abandon.  Their shows feature the beautiful 3 part harmonies of Laurie and backup singers Lisa Grubbs and Carolyn Kelley, as well as dueling solos between Laurie and 6-string-bassist Pat Morvan.  All the while drummer Kevin Murillo lays down an intense and powerful blues rock foundation.

DEACON JONES

DEACON JONES

DEACON JONES

Charismatic and handsome, Deacon Jones is an underground legend, wildly popular in Europe and South America, but one of the USA's best kept secrets. A true "musician's musician," Deacon has been mentored by the best: twenty years with the revered " King of the Boogie," JOHN LEE HOOKER, serving as band leader, MC, merchandise manager, and of course, organ player; Deacon and HOOK were the best of friends. JOHN LEE HOOKER paid Deacon the highest possible accolade: when asked by a journalist who the best organ player in the world was, HOOK replied, unequivocally, "Deacon Jones." It is a little known fact that Deacon also wrote John Lee Hooker's favorite song in the world, the haunting, poignant " We'll Meet Again." The song appeared on Hooker's " Chill Out" CD, which won a well deserved Grammy and went multi platinum.

Before his John Lee Hooker apprenticeship for stardom, Deacon worked with guitar/ vocal legend, the great FREDDIE KING. It was FREDDIE KING who in Deacon's words, taught him to "Eat, sleep, walk, talk, and live the blues." FREDDIE KING made a blues man out of Deacon, who had previously worked with the famed singer, CURTIS MAYFIELD, and his band, the IMPRESSIONS. CURTIS MAYFIELD was so impressed by Deacon that he hired him, not just for his band....(Deacon at that time played trumpet, but began playing organ with FREDDIE KING), but as an A&R man for CURTIS' label CURTOM RECORDS.

International cult blues Hammond B-3 player -- winner, "Keyboard Player of the Year" five times.

LEAH TYSSE

LEAH TYSSE

WINNER- BILLBOARD WORLD SONG CONTEST "You Don't Scare Me" - Best R&B Song 2007

From 1994 to 1997, Leah was a featured soloist in an all-female a cappella group before moving to Paris to work as a blues and R&B vocalist for a popular nightclub. Upon returning to the U.S. in 1998, Leah joined the world-famous Glide Memorial Church Ensemble (www.glide.org) in San Francisco where she is a featured soloist in the 100-person gospel choir.

When you see her face, watch her perform, listen to her songs and, especially, hear that voice, you'll be convinced that Leah Tysse's arrival brings the next big thing to Blues, R&B and Soul. Featuring a rich, sultry voice, with a lyrical depth and emotion that transcend the years of one so young, Leah Tysse is an original American voice.

Says Joseph Jordan, Southland Blues Magazine's National Editor, "She's got an intuitive feel for the fire and core of a song, and brings that to the audience with both intense conviction and a steely soulfulness. She's a commanding young singer, filled at once with endearing subtly and steely grit.

Audiences and peers have compared Tysse's voice and stage presence to such artists as Aretha Franklin, Joss Stone and Susan Tedeschi, yet she maintains a fresh originality that sets her apart from virtually anyone currently performing.

But it's Tysse's original music that is causing such a buzz. Her lyrics and genre-bending versatility allows her music to be continually fresh and provides listeners with a multitude of musical directions & vocal styles. Her songs have gathered West Coast recognition via airplay on independent stations and national network affiliates.

Now, her wildly enthusiastic fan-base have the CD they've been demanding from her. Call the songs in Leahs first album "Real Good Fire" what you will, be it blues, soul, funk or pop-crossover. It doesn't matter, the proof of budding-greatness is in the listening.

MARK HUMMEL with RUSTY ZINN

From 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM

MARK HUMMEL with RUSTY ZINN

Mark Hummel & the Blues Survivors with Rusty Zinn

The past decade has seen the emergence of young harmonica-led blues bands. In California, groups that draw their inspiration from the Chicago school but add elements of jump blues and rock 'n' roll into the mix have come up with an exciting new style of West Coast blues. In Oakland, the northern capital of California blues, resides the incredibly powerful harmonica player and vocalist Mark Hummel, leader of The Blues Survivors, who has been a major force in shaping and defining this musical genre.

Mark Hummel is a road warrior - a true Blues Survivor. Along the way, he has crafted his own trademark harmonica sound - a subtle combination of tone, phrasing and attack combined with a strong sense of swing. While Mark is new to Electro Fi Records, his earlier albums, constant touring and appearances at the major blues festivals have firmly established his solid reputation around the US and Europe.

Born in New Haven, Connecticut and raised in Los Angeles, California, Mark absorbed the music of such Chicago based harp blowers as Little Walter, James Cotton, and Sonny Boy Williamson, before settling in Berkeley, California in 1972. There he played with local bluesmen such as Cool Papa, Boogie Jake, Mississippi Johnny Waters and Sonny Lane.

While on tour with his band in 1988, Mark was introduced to Canadian guitarist and vocalist Sue Foley. After several tours that year, Mark and Sue released "Up & Jumpin'", which also features piano legend Charles Brown. Eager to revive the Blues Survivors, Mark hit the road again in 1990, before releasing "Hard Lovin'" in 1992 on Double Trouble Records. He has been on the road constantly since then, stopping only to record "Feel Like Rockin'" in 1994 and "Married to the Blues" in 1995 on Flying Fish Records. He has performed at numerous festivals across the country, including the San Francisco Blues Festival, Chicago Blues Festival, King Biscuit Blues Festival, Waterfront Blues Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, and has performed and judged at the Hohner Harmonica World Championship, held in Germany.

Since 1991, Mark has been both producing & performing at his annual Blues Harmonica Blowout™ series. These shows have grown to be a much heralded event & continue to draw sellout crowds wherever they appear. The list of participants is a who's who of Blues harp history, James Cotton, Charlie Musselwhite, Norton Buffalo, Kim Wilson, Huey Lewis, Carey Bell, Billy Boy Arnold, Rod Piazza, Rick Estrin, Paul deLay, Snooky Pryor, James Harman, Gary Primich, Sam Myers, in just the last three years of this 11 year event.
